Response to Lec 3 & Session 1.3 Reading

Where is internet studies? & Lec 3 - Response

The internet seems to be a constantly evolving network. Few things stay in fad. People are always looking for the next big thing to follow. Due to these characteristics, schools and universities have to move with the times and are also constantly changing their curriculum's to suit the fast paced world. There are so many different facets and fields when dealing with the internet. As it is now a vital business tool and window to the world. Information gathering has been made easy and just a click away. Students in the classroom today will learn different things than even kids of next year and years after. Im sure we can agree that what ever direction internet studies go, its an exciting realm and full of possibilities.

Technology and media were brought up again today. The lecture brought about an aspect of the online world in suggesting there are two different themes in early internet studies which include the virtual community and individual identity. The internet was bound to resonate with people all over the world as it allowed people to have an alternate, away from their usual day to day life. The facebook world is an example of this. Not really reality but when you are on the computer it is to the user. It appeals to the ego of humans. We all want to be liked and rewarded. Facebook and other sites like this thrive on this aspect to please us and make us feel wanted.
